Due to the great threat of food-borne pathogens to human health, interest was focused on developing the detection method for bacteria. [1] In this study, a convenient method for detection of Escherichia coli (E.coli) through the use of magnetic nanospheres (MNs) was established. Here, poly (styrene/acrylamide) copolymer nanospheres (Pst-AAm) were synthesized as templates to fabricate magnetic nanospheres (MNs) by layer-by-layer assembly method. [2, 3] The MNs were nanosized with narrow size distributions, large surface/volume ratios and high magnetic saturation. Furthermore, the MNs had good dispersion in liquid media.
