Directional auxin transport in plants is mediated by auxin influx and efflux carriers. It is thought that the direction of auxin flux can be predicted based on the polar localization of the PIN efflux facilitators. We have characterized the polarly localized AGC kinases D6 PROTEIN KINASE (D6PK)-D6PKL3.Arabidopsis d6pk mutants are severely compromised in the basipetal transport of the plant hormone auxin and d6pk mutants display a number of phenotypes that can be explained by auxin transport defects.
