A novel cerium-doped titania nanofiber was successfully prepared by electrospinning method.Experimental study of photocatalytic oxidation of elemental mercury(Hg0)from simulated coal combustion flue gas over TiO2 and cerium-doped titania catalysts was conducted.The nanofibers were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)as well as transmission electron microscopy(TEM)respectively.The mercury removal efficiency under different light conditions and the optimum doping content of cerium were tested.The average diameters of these nanofibers were about 200nm.Elemental mercury(Hg0)oxidation efficiencies over Ce-TiO2 nanofibers were tested under dark,visible light(vis)irradiation as well as UV irradiation.The results confirmed that cerium doping strongly enhanced the photocatalytic oxidation activity of TiO2 nanofibers,which decreases with the increasing of Ce-doped content generally.0.3wt%Ce-TiO2 nanofibers calcined at 400 ?C exhibited the highest Hg0 removal efficiency of 91%under UV irradiation.0.5wt%Ce-TiO2 enhanced Hg0 removal efficiency from 9%to 26%under visible light irradiation.The increased photocatalytic activity is attributed to the better photoelectron-hole separation.
