The layered structure of the mammalian neocortex is formed through a well-coordinated radial migration of cohorts of post-mitotic neurons during early development.Several proteins have been identified as essential for the migration of neurons and the formation of stereotyped cortical lamination. However, how the newborn neurons are regulated to migrate or to terminate their migration at their destined layers remains unclear. Here we examined the contribution of a member of novel PKC in the migration of newborn neurons to their final layer in developing rat cortex.
