We prove a homogenization result for the energy-functional associated with a purely brittle composite whose microstructure is characterized by soft periodic inclusions embedded in a stiffer matrix. We show that there exists an elementary microscopic arrangement of the two constituents as above that gives rise,in the limit,to homogeneous macroscopic energy-functional of cohesive type.
