Objective: To summarize our experience in joint orthodontics and orthognathic surgery for the treatment of secondary dentofacial deformity following cleft lip and palate repair.Methods: Forty-nine patients with secondary dentofacial deformity following cleft lip and palate repair were retrospectively reviewed.There were 20 males and 29 females, ranging from 16 to 28 years in age.All the patients underwent preoperative orthodontics, alveolar bone graft for cleft.Surgical procedures included advancement Le.Fort I osteotomy, Simultaneous bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) in some patients, Rigid fixation with miniplates was applied to each patient.The clinical follow-up period ranged from 6 to 48 months.Results: It was showed that all the patients had a much-improved facial profile, and a satisfactory facial proportion with a relatively stable occlusion.Conclusion: The satisfying effects could be achieved for secondary dentofacial deformity following cleft lip and palate repair when joint orthodontics and orthognathic surgery were introduced.
