DD中极小质量白矮星可以通过公共包层演化和稳定的洛希瓣物质交换形成;MSP和EL CVn型双星中的ELM WD，通过稳定的物质交换形成。稳定物质交换形成的ELM WD，满足通常的WD质量-周期关系。proto-He WD的寿命和ELM WD的质量强相关。内真质量分布向小质量端集聚。
