DWARF1 (DWF1) is known as a sterol C-24 reductase which catalyzes conversion of 24-methylenecholesterol to cholesterol in Arabidopsis thaliana.A loss-of-function mutant, dwfl showed similar phenotypic abnormalities as found in brassinosteroid (BR)-deficient mutants. The abnormalities were completely restored to wild-type phenotype by exogenous application of each castasterone (CS) and brassinolide (BL),but not dolichosterone (DS).Accumulation of DS and decrease of CS were found in quantitative analysis of endogenous BRs in dwf1.
