Amorphous solids are generally more soluble and faster dissolving than their crystalline counterparts, which makes them useful for delivering poorly soluble drugs whose bioavailability is limited by their low solubility.However, amorphous drugs are thermodynamically unstable, and tend to crystallize over time due to the excess free energy.
