Background: Hydroxyapatite(HA)coated titanium substrates improved the biocompatibility and had the property of bone ingrownths fixation presented by intimate ossteointegration with host bone. However,HA lacked the necessary mechanical strength and was confirmed to be degraded in extracellular fluids, which may affect the stability of the Ti implant.Lanthanum-incorporated Hydroxyapatite(n-La/HA)had good biocompatibility and might influence the mineralization process and the dissolution of biological minerals and bones.Aim: To study the synthesis and components of(n-La/HA).Methods: The HA and n-La/HA were prepared by means of sol-gel and deposited on Ti substrates with dip-withdrawal technique.Surface morphology of the coatings were observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The presence of functional groups for the obtained samples were performed by FT-IR absorption spectroscopy. The Ca2+ concentration released from the coatings was measured by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry(AAS).Results and conclusion: The SEM micrograph of n-La/HA coating indicated that the coating is uniform and free of cracks. The FT-IR and XRD results verified the La3+ was incorporated in the n-La/HA composite structure and had good crystallinity. The n-La/HA coating had an inhibitory effect on the degradation of hydroxyapatite.La-incorporated hydroxyapatite coating with uniform and highly densed structure can be prepared by sol-gel successfully.
