Sexual behavioural interactions are one of the major factors mediating species exclusion among insects.The whitefly Bemisia tabaci is a complex composed of over 30 cryptic species,some of which are important agricultural pests.In particular,the cryptic species Middle East-Asia Minor 1(MEAM1)and Mediterranean(MED),formerly referred to as the B and Q “biotype”,have invaded many parts of the world in the past 30 years.Field and laboratory observations show that cryptic species of this complex,either indigenous or invasive,often exhibit niche overlap and sexual behavioural interactions between species.
