Previously, the multicomponent reactions of enaminones 1, aldehydes and amines have been found to generate symmetrical 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHP) 2 (eq 1).[1] In present work, we achieved three-compnent reactions of p-chlorobenzadehyde, different enaminones 1a and 3 for the synthesis of 1,4-DHP 4 (eq 2).The unsymmetrical and fused structure of 4 represents extended molecular diversity.In addition, the present synthesis led to formation of only 1 equiv.mol of side product HNMe2, which was more economical than previous work.
