before the 1990s, the themes preferred by African Studies programmes in China seem to be more in the area of insurgency and liberation struggles in Africa.But now, issues relating to contemporary Africa political and economic affairs most especially Sino-African strategies are beginning to be emphasized though not sufficiently.On the other hand, Chinese Studies is not formalized in Africa but limited to the activities of a sprinkle of ill-coordinated Confucius Institutes in some African universities that teaching Chinese language and promotes better understanding of China.However, there are several research bodies across the continent that carries out research projects on China as an emerging power in Africa.The donor-driven issues they cover are not adequate for strengthening Sino-African relations.
