Background our previous work had shown that xenon postconditioning at the initiation of reperfusion produced a neuroprotective effect on the spinal cord IRI in rats.Interestingly,it is reported that xenon can provide neuroprotection when applied 1 h after successful resuscitation in pigs or when administered up to at least 2 h after brain ischemia in rats.Therefore,this randomized experiment was designed to assess neuroproteetive effect of xenon delayed postconditioning on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and determine its implement timing to provide the best protection in a rat model.
