Borate crystals, as nonlinear optical materials, have attracted much attention for their characters in the wide range of wavelengths in transparency, high damage threshold and their uses in laser frequency conversion, optical communication. Therefore, many borates have been widely used in UV and visible regions. In this report, the energy-band engineerings for cations, fundamental building blocks, polyhedra on a class of borates[1,2,3] are arranged via ab initio methods. The crystal structure, band structure, and optical property are studied experimentally and theoretically[4].The relationship between microcosmic/macroscopic structures and optical properties are explored further.
