Muscle stem cells,also called satellite cells,reside in a well-defined anatomical niche which plays a pivotal role for the behavior and function of satellite cells.Myofibers,as the immediate niche,could affect satellite cell function by secreting various kind of cytokines.Intriguingly,musculature is composed of different type of myofibers with distinct metabolic features,thus an elusive question is whether satellite cell function is regulated by myofiber metabolism.Herein,we have demonstrated that a microRNA (miR-F),highly expressed in myofibers,could regulate satellite cell function by modifying the satellite cell niche via affecting muscle fiber type and metabolism.
