In the evolutional process between phytophagous insects, spider mites and plants, polyphagy and monophagy are gradually formed.As an economically important polyphagous agricultural spider mites,Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisduval) adapts to and feeds on a variety of host plants.During feeding,the mites digest plant materials for nutrients, and simultaneously, they convert exogenous toxic substances into non-poisonous ones, depending on their detoxification metabolism system.They were considered to be two essential metabolic pathways for T.cinnabarinus to adapt to feed on host plants.
