Objective: To evaluate the oral health status and behaviors of children with congenital heart disease(CHD),and aiming to provide necessary information for oral health care plans. Methods: The study comprised 119 children with CHD whose mean age was 5.8 years.Based on the methodology used in the 3rd national oral health survey, data of dental caries and dental treatment information were collected with dental examination and a questionnaire. Results: The caries prevalence in CHD children was 72.3%.The mean of dmft/DMFT and dmfs/DMFS were(4.9±5.2)and(10.3±14.8).The visible plaque index was 48.1%.In each age group, the mean dmft in 4-6 years old group is higher than 2-4 years old group(P=0.002).Among total 588 carious teeth, only 8 had been filled.Fourteen children had visited the dentist, and 78.6%visited the dentist only when they had oral problems. Conclusion: Compared with the results of the 3rd national oral health survey, children with CHD have higher caries prevalence and poorer oral health status, but fewer of them had received dental treatment. It is suggested that we should pay more attention to CHD childrens oral education.
