The study addresses the influence of a soft local site on the propagating seismic waves on the soft ground. In order to limit the influence factors and to clearly identify the effect it is assumed that the local site has a trapezoidal shape, and the incident waves have a single dominant frequency. The investigation reveals that in the case of hard soil(without the soft sediment)although all considered incident waves produce almost the same PGA,the ground displacements become larger with decreasing dominant frequency. The soft sediment causes,in contrast, not only larger ground displacements. It also causes with a decreasing dominant frequency stronger ground accelerations. The soft sediment can significantly alter not only the spatial variation but also the frequency content of the ground motions at the sediment surface.
