Our previous studies showed that Arabidopsis membrane steroid-binding protein 1 (MSBP1) could bind to BL in vitro and negatively involved in BR signaling. To further study the relevant mechanism, we firstly examined the interaction of MSBP1 with BR receptor BRI1 or BAK1.The results showed that MSBP1 could specifically interact with the extracellular domain of BAK1 in vivo in a BL-independent manner, but not BRI1, neither the intracellular kinase domain of BAK1.Accordingly, genetics studies revealed that the suppressed cell expansion and BR responses by increased MSBP1 can be recovered by overexpressing BAK1, indicating that MSBP1 may suppress BR signaling through interacting with BAK1.
