De novo unigene assembly and comparative transcriptomic characterization of distinct sugarcane genot

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is an important crop for sugar production and bioenergy worldwide.RNA-seq is an effective tool to analyze the transcriptome particularly for species lacking reference genome.A de novo assembly of the sugarcane transcriptome was performed on seven distinct cultivars using the Illumina HiSeq 2500 platform.Approximately 111.55 Gb of clean data were generated and assembled into 94,114 unigenes with a mean length of 882 bp and an N50 equal to 1,665 bp.A total of 41,401 (43.99 %) unigenes were annotated through COG,KOG,GO and KEGG databases.
