Mortons disease is a benign neuroma of an intermetatarsal plantar nerve, which may cause extreme pain and disability.Microscopically, the affected nerve presents extensive concentric perineural fibrosis. The treatment is generally the neurectomy, but recently, some surgeons have suggested that it is sufficient to cut the deep transverse metatarsal ligament (DTML) that connects the 3rd and 4th metatarsals in order to splay the webspace.
