Background Periprocedural myocardial infarction (MI) is an independent predictor of adverse clinical outcomes.Oxidant injury is one of the most important mechanisms of periprocedural MI.Methods In this prospective, single-center, randomized study, 280 patients were randomized into two groups: the probucol group (n=143), who received probucol 250 mg bid 3 days before procedure, versus control group (n=137),which received routine treatment. The primary endpoint was the incidence ofperiprocedural MI, defined as the elevationof elevation of cardiac enzymes (CK-MB or cTNI) more than three times the 99th centile upper reference limit within 24hours after the procedure.
