Antarctic Krill have been treated as the potential fishery resource, but the high content of fluorine restricted its utilization. This investigation reports a new adsorbent material,Fe(Ⅲ) -coated Bamboo Charcoal which has a desirable defluoridation capacity (DC) of 1.5mg/g in Antarctic Krill Hydrolyzate.Fluoride ion selective electrode was used for the determination and monitoring of fluoride ion concentration. The optimal condition of Fe(Ⅲ)-coated Bamboo Charcoal for the removal of fluoride was assessed by batch method and optimized various parameters such as particle size, contact time, dosage,pH and temperature. The fluoride sorption was explained using Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. The Freundlich isotherm equation described the fluoride sorption equilibrium well at 303,308,and 313 K and the thermodynamic parameters such as △G°,△H°,and △S° indicated that the nature of fluoride sorption was spontaneous and endothermic. From the kinetic perspective, the fluoride adsorption followed the pseudo second-order reaction kinetics.Fourier tranform infrared spectroscopy was taken to confirm the respective functional groups present in the sorbents. The possible mechanism on fluoride adsorption on Fe(Ⅲ)-coated bamboo charcoal was also discussed.
