Liquid hot water(LHW)pretreatment was applied to enhance the enzymatic digestibility of sugarcane bagasse(SB).The 72-h digestibility was only 15.7%for the untreated SB,increasing to 77.9%for the samples treated with LHW at 180 ?C due to the removal of hemicellulose and lignin.Moreover,the transmission electron microscopy(TEM)images showed that untreated SB cell walls were composed of intercellular layers: the middle lamella(ML),the primary wall(P),and the secondary wall(S1,S2,and S3).
