Phenol,an industrially versatile commodity chemical,is currently derived from fossil resources.Bio-based phenol production from renewable feedstock has been limited due to its toxicity to microorganisms.Herein,we apply the synthetic regulatory sRNA technology to simultaneously engineer 18 Escherichia coli strains for the production of phenol.
