Ion distribution in AEMs has remarkable effects on anion exchange membranes(AEMs)1,which are critical components of anion exchange membrane fuel cells(AEMFCs).We prepared three monomers,3,3-di(4-methyl-phenyl)-4,4-difluorodiphenyl sulfone(DMPDFPS),3,3-di(3,5-dimethylphenyl)-4,4-difluorodiphenyl sulfone(DDMPDFDPS) and 4-methylbiphenyl-3,5-diol,by Suzuki coupling reaction2 and anti-Friedel-Crafts-type substitution3.They all have pendent benzyl groups,which can be converted into the quaternary ammonium groups.Polycondensation of DMPDFPS/DDMPDFDPS and 4-methylbiphenyl-3,5-diol resulted in a series of hydrophilic precursor oligomers.
