This study attempts to explore the different types of English speech errors made by the Chinese middle school students in their story-retelling speech.We compare the reference text with the transcribed texts of the audio files and then analyze words and phrases which are not involved in the reference text.Results show that negative transfer of Chinese has great influence on English learning process.Finally,we conclude with several suggestions on how to apply the influences of positive and negative transfer on automatic scoring of storyretelling speech.
