朊病毒病,又称TSEs (transmissible spongiform encephalopathies),是一种感染人和动物的神经退行性疾病,为体内正常朊蛋白构象发生变化之后在脑组织内沉淀所致.TSE的传播具有种属特异性,表现在毒株接种不同宿主后,新宿主不发病或发病潜伏期延长,并具有不同的疾病特征,比如,人类出现的vCJD(Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease,变异型克雅病)即是BSE(Bovine spongiform encephalopathy,疯牛病)跨种属传播所形成,因此研究跨种属意义重大.
