Al2O3-13wt%TiO2 coatings, formed by means of laser cladding on nickel-based alloy, were heated using high frequency induction sources.The coating and the interface between bond coating and ceramic coating were characterized by SEM, XRD, and EDS.It was found that two layers formed of substructure existed in the ceramic coating: one evolving from fully melted region, another resembling the liquid-phase-sintered structure consisting of three-dimensional net.The XRD and EDS analysis revealed that melted Al2O3 particles were embedded in the TiO2-rich matrix.The mechanism of the substructure formation was also explained in terms of the melting and flattening behavior of the powders during laser cladding processing.Meanwhile, the spinel compounds NiAl2O4 and acicular compounds Cr2O3 have been discovered in the interface between bond coating and ceramic coating, it proved that the laser cladding process by the chemical reactions, will lead to significantly enhance the coating adhesion.
