Purpose To investigate the altering expression profiles of efflux transporters at the inner blood-retinal barrier(BRB)during the development of early diabetic retinopathy(DR)and/or aging in mice.Method RT-PCR,western blot,and immunofluorescence were used to obtain the relative mRNA and protein expression profiles of various efflux transporters such as multidrug resistance 1(MDR1/Pglycoprotein,P-gp),multidrug resistance-associated proteins(MRPs),breast cancer-resistance protein(BCRP,also known as ABCG2),and lung-resistance protein(LRP)in the retina during the development of early DR and/or aging in mice.
