The superior mechanical and physical properties of CFRP have awarded the material such desirable and increasing demands in aerospace and aviation industries.Due to its excellent properties, CFRP is classified as a difficult-to-cut material. The machining process of CFRP is often characterized by high cutting forces and severe surface defects. Therefore, this research concerns the thrust force and the push-out burrs induced in drilling of CFRP by using CVD coated dagger drill and twist drill. The effect of the thrust force on the push-out burrs was investigated.Besides, the drilling performance of the two cutters was also compared. The results pointed out that drilling at low spindle speed and low feed rate could improve the hole quality, and the CVD coated dagger drill was more suitable for drilling of CFRP in contrast with the CVD twist drill.
