Clinical Legal Education was originally introduced to Viet Nam in 2007.Since then, with the support from BABSEA CLE,UNDP Vietnam and other partners,an increasing number of law schools in Viet Nam have begun to establish CLE programmes to improve students knowledge, skills and attitude toward social justice.Currently eight such law schools receive support as `core partners under the UNDP/BABSEA programme, and a number of other schools have participated in a variety of actitivies. The paper considers the reasons why Vietnamese law schools have decided to build CLE programmes, the challenges they face and their vision for the future;the reasons why UNDP regards support to CLE as a strategic way to promote the rule of law and access to justice;and the values and methodology underlying the programme.
