Attempts to combine the CAD/CAM technologies into the manufacturing processes of ceramics have been receiving increasing attention. The development of 3D printing and CNC technologies accelerates these technologies. However, the process to digitalize elegant curves and delicate patterns is the bottleneck of these attempts.Ceramic design should consider dimensional change according to application of the glazing surface and ease to separate plaster mold, not taken into account in other materials. In this study CAD design technology affordable forsmall sized companies is studied, and the efficiencyof the technology is also reviewed.'Kyeyongbae'notorious for its complicated manufacture process isinvestigated for mass production.Manufacturingprocess of ceramics can be classified as three stepsof design, original form fabrication, and production. At each step the application of CAD designtechnology is compared to that of conventionalprocess.Pros and cons of CAD technology isexamined through the whole process.A moreflexible approach for product design is suggestedfrom the strong points of CAD technology.
