The Norwegian Mammography program started in 4 of the most populated regions (counties) in 1996.It was decided that the Norwegian Cancer Register should run the program.During the following years all participated one by one until 2003 when the program covered the whole country.The program invites women age 50-69 every second year.The invitations go to smaller local areas so the women might travel together.
