Introduction Segmentation of masses plays a very important role in mammogram computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system.Most of the traditional mass segmentation methods focused on the establishment of appropriate object models and developing algorithms to find the parameters for these models.It may not work very well due to the complex situations of masses,such as various scales,complex shapes,ambiguous margins as well as the surrounding tissues.In this study,a robust method by using random walks for automatic segmentation of masses is proposed.
