Measurements of dimethylsulfide (DMS) and dimethylsulfopropionate (DMSP) were carried out in a region around the entrance of the Gulf of California (from 18 to 22 oN and 105 to 110 oW),which is characterized by the convergence of three surface water masses resulting in a complex mesoscale field.Meteorological, biological and oceanographic data were surveyed during an interdisciplinary cruiser in February-March 2005.Data from dissolved DMS and dissolved and particulate DMSP concentrations were analyzed in face of the different oceanographic and biological conditions at the convergence zone. Results of vertical profiles were mapped and compared with those obtained in another campaigns around the region.Data obtained about depth of the mixed layer, wind speed, pigments composition, chlorophyll and nutrients concentrations, among others, were used to test algorithms from the recent literature in order to compare the model-predicted concentrations of DMS with our observed results.Analysis and discussion assessing the relative importance of each parameter to predict DMS/DMSP concentrations in a regional perspective are presented.
