Objective: Studies on low intensity laser therapy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation therapy suggested its usefulness in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders with masseter muscle pain.Their therapeutic effect includes reduction of muscle pain and increase in the range of mouth opening. The purpose of this study is to clarify the factors related to the patient satisfaction in those treatments of patients with muscle pain. Methods: 34 patients of temporomandibular disorders with masseter muscle pain were enrolled in this study.Nineteen patients (3 males and 16 females) were treated with low intensity laser (Laser), and 15 patients (1 male and 14 females)were treated with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS).Pretreatment and posttreatment evaluation of masseter muscle pain at mouth opening and at biting was assessed by Visual Analog Scale (VAS 0-100mm) and the range of maximum mouth opening and mouth opening possible without pain were measured.Post-treatment patients satisfaction level also was assessed by VAS.The patients were divided into two groups by their ratings (under39 and over40).The results of the two groups were compared.
