The Arabidopsis SERK family of receptor-like kinases consists of 5 members.Other then SERK3,also known as BAK1,null mutants do not show a phenotype.When combining mutations of different members,a variety of phenotypes are seen that range from defective tapetum formation,impaired brassinolide signaling,accelerated cell death,impaired PAMP signaling and impaired abscission.Often,different phenotypes are combined in single,double or triple mutants.We are interested in the question why diverse signaling pathways require the same SERK combination in the same cells1.
