How fast did the past climate change? Evidence from Greenland ice core shows that the temperature increased by 7℃ within 50 years in the last deglaciation (Dansgaard et al, 1989), or even more than 10℃ (Grachev et al, 2005).In the monsoon region, however, there is little evidence of how fast the circulation changed.Since the stalagmite δ18O from China monsoon regions could represent the signal of the monsoon circulation (many references), which is also consistent with the change in the δ18O in Greenland ice cores (Wang et al, 2001), thus we use the δ18O series took from laminated stalagmite from northern China to explore this issue.
