Cancers of unknown origin account for some 2% of all cancer diagnoses.Of these, adenocarcinoma accounts for approximately 70% of cases and the site usually involves the liver, lungs, lymph nodes or bone.It should be noted even at autopsy, 20-30% of cases have no obvious primary sites.The surgical oncologist is involved in the initial diagnosis of malignancy, which will involve a biopsy often under imaging control.Further involvement will depend on the site and clinical presentation.
