The construction of Kent Ridge Station of Contract 855 of Circle Line Project in Singapore adopted a standard cut and cover method using contiguous bored piles to form the temporary works, with a maximum excavation depth of 30m and a temporary base slab to enable two Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machines(EPB TBM)to pass through the station prior to casting of permanent base slab.Sensitivity of adjacent Kent Ridge Wing Building of National University Hospital(NUH)and lots of utilities to settlement increased the risk of construction. The proximity of South Buona Vista Road added to the overall risk for the deep excavation to be carried out. Moreover the abrupt changes in the geological profile have increased the challenge to the designers for the temporary works.Located between National University Hospital and PSB Building and other sensitive structures, the monitoring and control of noise and vibration including other environmental aspects during the construction as per the NEA guidelines was taken up with utmost sincerity due to the sensitivity of the locality. This paper present the design approach and construction measures utilized to construct Kent Ridge Station.
