This paper examines the growth impact of China outward direct investment on the economic growth in host developing countries.Based on a cross country panel of 140 countries over 2003-2010 and a recent firm level survey data from Guangdong province,it finds that Chinese OFDI in developing countries appears to have a positive and significant impact on their long-run economic growth. However, its association with short-run growth in these countries is negative.Chinese OFDI is more likely to go to countries with low per capita income growth.Chinese OFDI appears to have contributed positively to the economic growth not only in Africa but also in Europe and North America. However, its contribution in Asia and Latin America is insignificant.
