Purpose:Medication usage within residential aged care settings,particularly with people with impaired cognition,has been a source of concern to clinicians,health planners and researchers alike.Pharmacological therapy for the management of pain often hasa pm (or as necessary) drug order,involving registered nurses making a clinical decision about drug therapy.This paper discusses a change process which sought to understand the barriers to quality use of medicines in a 30 bed unit.
