The observation/discovery of immunomodulatory effects of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) administration in children with immune thrombocytopenia ITP (Imbach et al., The Lancet 1981;1:1228-1231) evoked clinical and laboratory research in many other autoimmune disorders.In these disorders it has been realized that the disturbed immune response of the innate and adaptive immune system sustains autoimmunity.
