Convenient, safe and comfortable pedestrian environment serves not only as the method to effectively bring about the intention of integrating function and attracting circulation, but also the key of green transit and humanized cities. The research of city dwellers satisfaction as well as its influencing factors with pedestrian environment is based on site inspection and over 300 questionnaires in 3 rail transit station regions of Shanghai.Firstly through the research we find that firstly pedestrians using rail transit focus mainly on the convenience of environment.Secondly, public security and clear identification plays important roles on environmental quality citation as well. Finally, walking continuity and comfort also count.Apart from all these, respondents gender and age have their effects as well. The article uses the methods of satisfaction inspection and interdependency analysis to explore pedestrian environmental judgment and its influencing factors. To sum up,we can get three conclusions as follows :1) Comparing to other environmental factors, pedestrians arriving at rail transit station will pay more attention on road net convenience which ranks first important. This is not related merely with block road texture, but also with pedestrians subjective perception on road passing difficulty, pavement condition and off-street commerce abundance.Road passing ranks the most unsatisfactory factor. As a result, decreasing human-vehicle conflict, ensured convenient and safe road passing should be key points in optimizing pedestrian environment.2) General pedestrian satisfaction comes mainly from composition and recombination of various levels of environmental perception and is largely under the compound influences of pedestrians direct experience and subjective needs such as scenery sights, pavement condition, traffic safety and identification. So we should focus on single factor and this is good for discovering existing problems and potentials.Additionally, every single factor has interaction with each other. For example, comfort issues such as pavement condition and scenery will have effects on perception of convenience and safety. As a result,we should consider the optimization of pedestrian environment through multi-factors and multi-levels methods in order to attain the refinement of environmental quality.3) The assessment is affected by interviewers social nature as well.We can tell that the optimization of pedestrian environment should be based on human needs.Different kinds of people will focus on different major issues.Additionally, the needs of elder, juvenile and disabled should be paid more attention particularly. To sum up,we should emphasize the concept of pedestrian in order to make a more humanized, green, healthy and sustainable city life.
