Based on the survey and collection in two important water conservation areas of Qinling mountans during 2008-2013,this study uses line transect method to assess the population of butterflies.,and A total of 14352 butterflies were recorded, including 302 species in 140 genera under 5 families were identified, among which,4 species were nationally conserved species.Nymphalidae wasis the dominant family, with the most species number (148),genera number (64) and individual number (5527);Papilionidae was the lowest number of observations within the sample, containing 24 species,64 genera and 1540 individuals.Through calculated and analyzed several indexes, such as the richness index, the diversity index, the evenness index, the dominance index and the similarity coefficient of the two river basins, the results showed that Nymphalidae was the highest value of the richness index (1.9908) and the diversity index(3.4582);Hesperiidae was the highest value of the evenness index (0.8220) and Pieridae was the highest value of the dominance index (0.8698).
