Among animal models of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, progressive muscle degeneration,ectopic calcification in skeletal muscle, and high serum phosphate (Pi) levels are dystrophic phenotypes in mdx mice.High Pi conditions are closely related to the presence of calcification in soft tissues and to accelerate of the aging process which are now known as "Phosphate Toxicity"both in vivo and in vitro.We previously reported that high Pi conditions inhibited myogenesis and up-regulated osteogenic pathways in C2C12 cells.However, the effects of high Pi conditions on muscle pathology of mdx mice are not well studied.
