This paper presents a study of a production of bioflocculant using alkaline-thermal(ALT)pre-treated sludge and its application in swine wastewater treatment. After 60 h of fermentation, bioflocculant of 2.9 and 4.1 g/L were produced in sterilized and alkaline-thermal treated sludge as compared to that of 1.8 g/L in acid-thermal treated sludge.Findings showed that the main backbone of the bioflocculant was protein, with the presence of hydroxyl, carbonyl and carboxyl groups.Response surface methodology(RSM)was employed to optimize the treatment process. The optimal flocculating conditions from RAM were bioflocculant of 9.2 mg/L,PAC of 22.3 g/L,pH of 6.9 and agitation speed of 198 rpm,and the corresponding removal rates of COD,ammonium, and turbidity were 83.6%,74.3%,and 88.5%,respectively.
