Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) have become important environmental pollutants, and their in vivo metabolites are suspected of disturbing hormone function because the structures of PBDEs metabolites are similar to human hormones, such as thyroxine and estrogen. To study the metabolites of PBDEs,mice were continuously dosed orally and subcutaneously to DE-71,a widely used commercial pentabromodiphenyl ether product, for 34 days.
